McBride Advisor of the Year 2009

"New challenges from our local, state or federal governmental agencies are presented from time to time that could harm our clients and our industry. It is first of all, great to be notified and informed as we are through NAIFA. Secondly, it is our obligation as members to either support the positive issues or to do battle against the negative.  NAIFA researches and presents us with our industry position so that we are all united together in an improved version.  In the battle, it is wonderful to align with other NAIFA members to be sure our voices are heard. Over the last several months, we have been doing battle against the initial versions of Health Care Reform, which would have been very bad for our industry, but more so, for America if passed. It has been my pleasure to work along side of some of our very best members to be sure that our thoughts will be reflected in the final version that hopefully will be good for all. Being informed, having a clear cause, and having aligned professionals to serve with is an honor. Join the battles that approach, invite others to be involved, and thanks to the many who have done battle before me to protect what we have for the good of our clients."

NAIFA-Arizona Association of the Year Award Recipients:

NAIFA-Scottsdale wins NAIFA-Arizona Association of the Year Award:

Tracy L. Jones, NAIFA-Scottsdale President, was the recipient of this prestigious award for association activity and management excellence during her year as president 2008/09.  This was presented during the Annual Leadership Conference.  Congratulations, Tracy!

Two locals won the 2009 Richard Martinez Award: NAIFA-Phoenix with Eric Bailey as Community Service Chair and NAIFA-Tucson with Chastity Vaughan.

The Award
is named after Richard Martinez, CLU, who dedicated himself as NAIFA-Arizona’s Community Service Chair for many years, and who was lost to us suddenly some years ago in an automobile accident.  Rick’s dedicated and constant giving to those less fortunate makes this award a very special remembrance.

NAIFA-Arizona recently held its 2009 Area Leadership Conference (August 14). This important meeting helps prepare all local leaders in carrying out their duties and responsibilities for the 2009/2010 Association Year.

Letter from NAIFA President

November 6, 2008

Dear NAIFA Members:

“The insurance industry is facing a whole new world in Washington,” proclaimed a headline in yesterday’s National Underwriter. With results of national and state elections becoming clear, NAIFA has been busy defining our strategies for continuing to be a powerful voice and trusted source to administration and congressional leaders. And as the leading advocate for insurance agents, advisors and our industry, NAIFA pledges its cooperation and assistance to our elected leaders. You can expect a great deal of detailed analysis and commentary from NAIFA in the days and weeks ahead.

For over 118 years, your NAIFA has been in Washington, D.C., working with previous administrations and Congress on a non-partisan basis – fighting for you, the products and services you offer, and your clients. NAIFA has been working every day to protect our industry and the products that protect American families. Representing you and advocating for your business is NAIFA’s mission, and we will continue to deliver on that charge.

President-elect Obama’s campaign has consistently promised change, and headlines like the one from National Underwriter portend monumental changes to our industry. Two of the questions on everyone’s mind are: What changes will affect our clients and the services we provide? How will the new administration’s policies affect our businesses and our livelihoods?

NAIFA’s advocacy can help bring favorable answers to these questions. Access to administration and congressional policymakers is a main strength of NAIFA’s advocacy efforts. Because of your membership, NAIFA is in a unique position to represent all agents, in all disciplines, across the nation. With voters, taxpayers and job creators in every single congressional district across the country, NAIFA’s reach is undeniable. However, it is important to remember that advocacy is a contact sport. The challenges ahead will require all of us to be actively engaged members.

To effectively create new and strengthen existing positive relationships with powerful congressional leaders, we need continued growth in our grassroots, political involvement and Political Action Committee programs. NAIFA must focus on mobilizing current members and attracting new ones to engage in our critical advocacy mission.

To be certain, President-elect Obama and the new Congress will face unprecedented challenges, and our industry will be faced with a “whole new world in Washington.” Building on NAIFA’s solid foundation, we pledge to work with the new administration as it considers policies that affect our industry. You can count on NAIFA to work tirelessly for the benefit of your career, your clients, and the financial services industry.

Liver disease brings couple closer in many ways

August 9, 2008

Dear Friends,

Sally and I are recovering very nicely after liver surgery on June 30th.
Sally received the right lobe of my liver to replaced her diseased liver in
an all day procedure at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix. Recovery has
proceeded nicely with a few minor bumps along the way. I plan to return to
work right after Labor Day while Sally will take the rest of the year to
recover.

The Arizona Republic heard about our operations and did a vey nice article
that ran in the Community Section on August 2nd. The link for that is
attached below if you are interested.

We thank you all for your prayers and support during the past few weeks.
They have made a real difference.

All our love,

Tod & Sally Lashway
